Brew it like a girl

Meet Hoplala – a group of girls who brew refreshing beers with fresh juices and herbs.

Each beer represents a different trait of a feminine personality. Their infamous Pretty, Smart, Talented, or Lady in Black make girls say “That’s me!”.

Such an approach makes them stand out from heavy, graffiti-like craft beer brands that mainly focus on the male audience.

A challenge

Hoplala’s labels are built of a lot of white space paired up with strong key visuals – each of them could stand as a brand of its own.

When we first started working together, Hoplala already had a few beers in their portfolio. Finding my own way to fit into their already existing branding challenged me to learn a lot about the craft beer niche and product design.

The solution

Funky typography, a lot of texture instead of solid colors & collage-like design – that’s my recipe for a label that is in tune with other Hoplala products.

Thinking of the label’s key visual as something that would also go well as a print on a poster or a t-shirt helps to stay consistent with the rest of the brand.

Hoplala loves wordplays. “Pszeróżnie bywa” could be loosely translated to “You know, things happen”. “PSZE” part stands also for “pszenica” (eng. wheat) and “RÓŻ” means “roses” or “pink”.

Because of the “RÓŻ” part (pl. pink), we went with some hot barbie pink as the main color. To give the label more flavor, we added some warm yellowish tones and quirky fonts that keep it fun and upbeat. Cold purple shades would make the message “You know, things happen” sound more ambivalent and we really did not want that. Colors matter!

Because the names of Hoplala beers are so catchy, they’re very easy to transfer to other advertising media:
