Short or long Instagram captions? Which ones are better? To find the best answer, we need to get into the brains of your followers! What does it mean?
First of all, you need to understand what makes people follow you.
Long and short Instagram captions are both good. But everything depends on what the account is about, what is the message you want to deliver, what kind of photo you post, and who you are as a creator.
While there are many topics that your account may be about, most of them fall into one of these two categories: the visual content or the educational content.
Accounts about interior design, makeup, gardening, fashion are usually followed by users who search for visual content, whereas accounts about self-care, business growth or healthy eating deliver mainly the educational content.
Of course, it doesn’t mean that the feed about makeup can’t be educative or that the feed about business growth can’t be visually appealing. The point is that you need to understand for what reason the people came to follow you.
Always create the content that your audience wants to see, not what you want them to see! If you’re not sure what they want – just ask them! Run a poll on your Insta Story – and believe me – they’ll tell you what they want!
Here are few tips that (I hope!) will help you to write mind-blowing captions!
Use long captions when:
- you share a solid information – something that your audience will find interesting, helpful, and valuable.
- you introduce yourself – be sincere, open, and funny! Make people love you!
- you tell a story with a moral – try to create “from the heart” caption!
Use short captions when:
- you ask an engaging question,
- you run a poll,
- you just want to comment a photo – some puns and jokes are VERY welcome!
Absolute NO-NOs when you run a business account! Please 😱 don’t post:
- few emojis,
- songs’ lyrics,
- an irrelevant personal stuff.
What if you want to post a long caption, but you’re afraid that people won’t read it and – as a result – they won’t engage?
The best way to get more engagement under your post is to put a question at the very beginning of your caption!
It may sound like a no-brainer, but so many Instagrammers don’t use this technique! When the caption is very long and the question is at the bottom, there’s a small chance that your followers will pay attention to it 😭
